Textile and Apparel Markets of India




I
ntroduction:
           India is having lot of industrial scope in the area of textile industry and apparel industry. India is not only populated with human population but is an agricultural oriented land also. Many variety of crops are grown and harvested season wise with tremendous supports from Govt.Of India and it's state Governments with many schemes for farmers, irrigation, reservoir for water collection, rain harvesting, fertilizer, agricultural equipment's, seeds supplies, subsidiaries, etc., Among them cotton is one of the main commercial cash crop supported Indian economy and its farmers.
          Sericulture is the other area for production of  silk fiber and it's products. Cultivation of mulberry plants,rearing of silkworms,reeling of yarns,weaving of silk fabrics includes woman sarees, traditional clothing,wedding and auspicious textiles,etc, Govt.of India and it's state Governments extended supports to its silk industries in terms of subsidiaries, market growth, equipments,etc,.
          Other fiber industries like Jute and its products also encouraged by the governments.
          Apart from above,wool production,technical textiles, handicrafts,apparel production,geotextiles,medical textiles,etc, are the main source cum visions of Indian textile and apparel industries.
          Many government and private research & development institutes,educational institutes,small scale industries,mills,composite mills,garment export house,etc, are the back bone on Indian export market.

Export Markets:
          India is the second largest exporter of textile and apparel in the world with 5% share in global exports.
          India has two types of export markets: 
1.Traditional markets- USA(20%) and EU-28(25%) with total 45% share.In EU-28,UK shares 6%,Germany shares 5% and Spain shares 3%,rest 11 % from other EU states.
2.Top emerging markets:
   a]UAE(9%), Bangladesh(6%) and China(3%)  with total 18%
   b] Various other markets (37%)

Previous Export data:
          India's textile & apparel export in 2018-19 increased by 2.1% to US$40.1 bn as compared to US$ 39.2 bn in 2017-18 including handicrafts.

Emerging markets of India (Added on 20 June,2021)
          The following 12 markets in Six regions identified as huge potential for global textile & apparel export market. having India's share of 12%.

1.ASEAN Region=Vietnam, Indonesia
  (The association of South East Asian Nations)

2.WANA Region=Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia.
   (West Asia and North Africa nations)

3.Oceania region=Australia
   (Oceania is the geographical region includes Australia, Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia )

4.CIS region=Russia
    (Common Wealth of Independent States is a regional intergovernmental organization of Nine members plus two non members)

5.NEA region=South Korea
    (North East Asian Nations)

6.LAC region=Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Peru
   ( Region of Latin America and Caribbean)

          Indian textile and apparel export to the above 12 emerging markets increased to 18% in 2017-18 of value US$4.5bn from 2016-27.
