Plain weave | Basic weave I Weave pattern I Textile design.

Introduction:

The fabric weave known popularly worldwide, very historical, olden design and common in industry is plain weave design, first plain design fabric.

Plain weave. In the textile industry, that is in weaving mill, the spun or filament yarns used as a warp and weft. That is, as a longitudinal yarn and horizontal yarns. Make them together interlace with each other to construct the fabrics.

Technique involved:

The technique involved in the interlacement of the longitudinal threads and the horizontal threads, that is length wise and width wise yarns. The mechanism for interlacement of these yarns or threads is inbuilt in the loom machine.

How this interlacement takes place ?. For example, consider the plain weave as like the grid contain 1,2,3,4,5,Five lengthwise threads.  Each is 1st thread,2nd thread,3rd thread,4th thread,5th thread. These are all the longitudinal threads or yarns.

Then horizontal threads we named as A,B,C,D,E,F. Each is 1st thread,2nd thread,3rd thread,4th thread,5th thread.These are all the horizontal threads or yarns.

In plain weave, the threads interlacement pattern is referred as "one is one by one plain weave" pattern. What is one by one ?.In One by one (1 up / 1 down) pattern the above longitudinal and horizontal threads are interlaced as below.

Floating of Thread No.1:

First longitudinal thread No.1 will float over the first horizontal thread A.Then floating down of the second horizontal thread B.Then will float over the third horizontal thread C.Then floating down of the fourth horizontal thread D.Then will float over the fifth horizontal thread E.Like this floating of thread 1 takes place.

Floating of Thread No.2:

First longitudinal thread No.2 will float down the first horizontal thread A.Then floating over the second horizontal thread B.Then will float down the third horizontal thread C.Then floating over the fourth horizontal thread D.Then will float down the fifth horizontal thread E.Like this floating of thread 2 takes place.

Total interlacement:

Total interlacement takes place as when the odd thread numbers 3,5,7,9,etc.follows the floating pattern of thread No.1 and when the even thread numbers 4,6,8,10,etc.follows the floating pattern of thread No.2.Final output will be 1up / 1 down plain weave design.

Here 1UP means floating of single longitudinal thread over the horizontal thread. And 1DOWN means floating of single longitudinal thread down the horizontal thread.

This is how plain weave fabric is woven. The mechanism for threads or yarns up and down,up and down movement is in built in the loom machines parts. That is mechanical technology of the machines. This is about simple introduction to the plain weave design construction. It is made it woven in the loom machine.

Technical terms:The technical term, in weaving referred to the floating threads are as below.

End:The longitudinal individual thread is called END.

Pick:The horizontal individual thread is called PICK.

Warp:The number of threads present longitudinally in whole width of the fabric are referred as WARP.

Weft:The number of threads present horizontally in whole length of the fabric are referred as WEFT.

Yarn: Referred to the threads used for weaving are of spun or filament of any textile fiber.
